68, mon père et les clous

    France - 2017

Bricomonge is closing down! A son films his father during the last months preceding the closure of his hardware store, an opportunity to question him about his past and his life choices. A sensitive portrait, funny and moving; a glance behind closed doors where one crosses, between the shelves, all sorts of characters and lives...

At the time of inventory and accounts, I accompany my father in the last moments of the store. And I try to understand what led the Maoist activist he was in the 60s-70s, the intellectual graduate, to sell nails. Samuel Bigiaoui

Followed by a meeting with Samuel Bigiaoui.

    Taste of Cement

    Germany, Lebanon, Syria, U.A.E., Qatar - 2017

Every day, Syrian workers build a skyscraper in Beirut. Every night, a curfew forces them into the depth of cement. Meanwhile, the war is destroying their homes in Syria. Gradually, the sounds and images of destruction and reconstruction blend in a dreamlike cacophony: a dazzling essay on the meaning of a life in exile. For me, the challenge is to find my own language, to find myself as a filmmaker, to do something new and that my work, the way I treat this subject and film it, is a strong impact on the audience. Ziad Kalthoum

Followed by a discussion with Mélanie Simon-Franza (Juste Distribution)

Braguino (followed by Les Indes Galantes)

    France, Finland - 2017

In the middle of the Siberian taiga, 700 km from the smallest village, two families are settled, the Braguine and the Kiline. No roads lead there. They live in autarcy, according to their own rules and principles. In the middle of the village: a barrier. The two families refuse to talk to each other. On an island of the river, another community is built by the children, free, unpredictable, fierce. Between fear of the other, wild beasts and the joy offered by the immensity of the forest, is played here a cruel tale in which tension and fear draw the geography of an ancestral conflict. In original version with French subtitles.

Followed by a discussion with Saïda Kasmi (BueBird Distribution).

    Les Indes Galantes
Adaptation of a short part of the ballet Les Indes galantes by Jean-Philippe Rameau, with the help of a group of Krump dancers. The Krump is a dance born in the ghettos of Los Angeles in the 90s. Its birth results from riots and the brutal police repression that followed the beating of Rodney King.

    Raving Iran

    Germany, Iran - 2016

Anoosh and Arash, aka "Blade and Beard" (!), are two DJs of Tehran's underground house scene. But in Iran, "Western" music, considered a tool of Satan, is forbidden. Without prospects and at their own risk, Anoosh and Arash decide to program a rave party in the desert ... Circulating the news without being caught asks for an organization worthy of a spy film ... In original version with French subtitles

Making this film was a challenge: I filmed without permission, just with a tourist visa. My intention was to give a face and a voice to a certain Iranian youth and to show the heterogeneity of this society. Susanne Regina Meures
