Contemporary art center — Montélimar

Today — Open10am-12.30pm / 2-6pm — FEES

Presentation

The Adhémars' château in Montélimar is a Listed Building (Monument historique) housing a contemporary art centre since 2000. It offers an arts programme in connection with heritage. Established artists and young creators make the place their own along the four yearly exhibitions. Entrusted with a double mission, spreading artistic creations and raising public awareness of contemporary art, the centre supports projects combining both artistic requirements and geographical embeddedness.

Programme

With a yearly artistic programme, the art centre offers to discover established artists (T. Kawamata, J. Armleder, D. Buren, O. Kisseleva) or artists from a new generation (Le Gentil Garçon, M. Hendriks, E. Régent, G. Leon), present on the national and international scene.

Solo or group exhibitions, four or five projects are completed every year, one of which takes on a special form (residence, satellite arts project, Art Outside the Walls). They are combined with other activities (conferences, video-projections, performances). Each exhibition offers a new way of looking at the powerful architecture of the edifice.

Exhibition spaces

The château includes a three-hundred-square-meter exhibition area composed of two rooms 18 x 7 metres – the two levels of the seigniorial abode – and of an adjoining loggia. Those three rooms, through their dimensions and plainness, offer remarkable exhibition spaces. Depending on the project, the courtyard, the park, the rampart walk and Saint-Peter's chapel (11th century) can also be used. The latter can also house conferences. The site does not cater for permanent collections.
